The following guide will assist you in setting up your Apple TV device in ‘Single App Mode’, which we term as ‘Digital Signage Mode’. This mode enables the POMP digital signage app to launch automatically when the device boots up, and ensures the app stays open without the option to close it.
Prerequisites
- A USB-C cable (for Apple TV 4th Gen only) or an Ethernet cable (for Apple TV 4th Gen, Apple TV 4K (5th & 6th Gen))
- Apple Configurator 2 installed on your Mac
- Device pairing via Ethernet (applicable for Ethernet pairing users)
- Apple TV and your Mac connected to the same network
- Apple TV connected to the network via Ethernet
- Apple TV displaying “Pair Your Remote” screen. If not, either use a new Apple TV or reset your existing device. To reset, navigate to Settings > System > Reset.
Device Pairing via Ethernet
- Launch Apple Configurator on your Mac.
- From the menu bar, navigate to Apple Configurator 2 > Paired Devices.
- Choose your Apple TV from the Paired Devices list, then click Pair.
- Enter the 6-digit pin displayed on your Apple TV screen on your Mac.
- Close the Paired Devices window.
Step 1: Supervised Mode Enablement on Apple TV (Device will be Erased)
- Open Apple Configurator.
- Connect your Apple TV to your Mac via a USB-C cable (Not necessary for Ethernet pairing).
- Select your Apple TV.
- Click ‘Prepare’.
- Hit ‘Next’ twice.
- Select your organization if it exists, else select “New Organization”.
- If your organization is part of Apple Device Enrollment program, login, else click ‘Skip’.
- Enter your organization’s name and click ‘Next’.
- Choose ‘Generate a new supervision identity’ and click ‘Next’.
- Specify the steps for Setup Assistant. For Digital Signage usage, maintain default settings.
- Click ‘Prepare’.
- When prompted, use Touch ID or enter your password.
- If a message appears stating the device is already prepared, click ‘Erase’ to erase and prepare the device again.
Step 2: Device Setup
- After the device restarts, pair your remote by tapping on it.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network (Not applicable for wired connections).
- Log in with your Apple ID. (Tip: Utilize the Apple TV Remote app or iOS 15 built-in Apple TV Remote for quicker credential input)
Step 3: Install POMP – Digital Signage
- Open the App Store on your device and search for ‘POMP – digital signage’. Install the app.
Step 4: Activate Single App Mode on your Apple TV
- Open Apple Configurator 2 on your Mac. Your newly prepared device should appear under the ‘Supervised’ tab.
- Right-click on your device and select ‘Advanced > Start Single App Mode’.
- In the subsequent window, choose ‘POMP – digital signage’ from the list and click ‘Select App’.
- Your Apple TV screen will flicker and ‘POMP – digital signage’ will launch.
- Pair the device to your account to complete the setup.
